Meet Dan

Dan Anthon has been guiding fly fishers and whitewater enthusiasts since 1997, and his passion is evident in every trip he leads. Raised on the shores of North Lake Tahoe, Dan began fly fishing the creeks and rivers of the Tahoe National Forest with his father and brothers at age eight. He honed his skills under the mentorship of the late Andre Puyans and Ned Long, two influential figures in the fly fishing community.

Dan went on to study Fisheries Biology and Entomology at Humboldt State University, where he also taught the Introductory Fly Fishing course. Certified in Casting Instruction by the Federation of Fly Fishers, Dan trained under renowned instructors Mel Krieger and Joe Liebu. His career also includes work as a Fisheries Biologist on the rivers of Ventura County, CA.

In his early career, Dan helped develop the fly fishing program at Marble Mountain Ranch on the Klamath and Trinity Rivers, and guided some of Southern California’s most challenging whitewater on the Kern River. In 2006, Dan relocated to Central Oregon with his family to join The Fly Fishers Place in Sisters, OR, and worked as their Head Guide for 10 years. He also worked for Confluence Fly Shop and Deep Canyon Outfitters in Bend, Oregon, in 2016 and 2017. Since 2018, Dan has partnered with River Bourne Outfitters in Warm Springs, OR.

In the Fall of 2018 Dan Anthon was issued his own Special Use Permit from the BLM for his own company, JUST ADD WATER FLY FISHING LLC, for the Lower Deschutes River in Central Oregon, and also guides the McKenzie River & North Santiam under a special use permit with the USFS as an Oregon State Marine Board recognized Outfitter/Guide.

With nearly 20 years of guiding experience in Central Oregon, Dan specializes in providing expert instruction for both beginners and advanced anglers. His casting lessons and fly fishing schools are designed to help anglers master techniques and understand local entomology. Dan also enjoys sharing his knowledge through fly fishing-related speaking engagements.

Whether on the river or during a lesson, Dan’s goal is to make each trip a personal adventure, tailored to the needs and interests of every guest. When he’s not guiding, Dan enjoys fishing the flats of Baja and Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula for Bonefish, Tarpon, Snook, and Permit. He also enjoys hunting for monster fish in New Zealand. Back home in Sisters, Oregon, you’ll find him skiing and coaching up at Hoodoo Mountain, or rejuvenating at his wife’s yoga studio, Life.Love.Yoga.
